Mdina Freeform Crimped Bowl with Aventurine Trails (c.1969–73)

A sculptural and very rare Mdina crimped bowl in the highly collectable Tiger colourway, made in Malta in the 1970s. This freeform design features a softly crimped rim with a wide, organically rounded body — an unusual shape that rarely appears on the market, likely created in limited numbers as an experimental or studio-led form.

The bowl’s surface is richly layered with the classic Tiger palette: a fusion of golden ochre, sea green, and deep teal, creating swirling internal patterns with beautiful visual depth. The fluid movement and expressive form are hallmarks of Mdina’s early production, shaped by hand while the glass was molten.

Though unsigned, this piece bears all the qualities of early Mdina under Michael Harris and Eric Dobson — bold colourwork, heavy cased construction, and a strong sculptural identity. A collector’s piece in an exceptionally hard-to-find shape.
